Just follow the red brick in the sidewalk and you're on the freedom trail in Boston. Our tour guide wore the full regalia and was not only interesting put entertaining. I can't imagine wearing all that in the heat. The following are pics from the tour beginning at the Commons and ending at Fanual Hall.
We spent a lot of time in that cemetary. Of course Sam Adams, John Hancock, Paul Revere, James Otis, Robert Treat Paine, Franklin's parents, the massacre victims, among others are all buried there. For being a small cemetary it is quite historic.
The trail goes all over Boston and we didn't finish(Bunker Hill and the USS Constitution) until another day. I have to say I think the city of Boston has done a lousy job in preserving the sites. I understand that there is a lot of foot traffic, but it was disheartening to see the unkempt, and in some places, dismal shape of the sites. You wouldn't see that at a church history site.
I need to add a disclaimer about Bunker Hill. It was the most unworth it thing I did the whole time there, I mean climbing to the top. 294 steps on a circular staircase to the top. No big deal right. Wrong. That means there is really 600 steps up and down and man did you feel it later. I mean for days. They need a huge disclaimer at the bottom explaining exactly what you are in for. It should clearly state that this venture may not be worth it at all, for at the top is a small room with limited seating, a few windows, and thats all. Then it is back down, way down. The pain was felt for the rest of the week. Completely not worth it.
