The last few books have not been my faves: 4,5,6. I would have to consider #2 as my favorite, mainly I think it is the most funny of all the books. Seven is not real funny, it is serious, it is the final piece to the coming of age of Harry Potter. And definitely better than 4,5,6.
I really liked most of the book. I wish there was more banter between Harry and Draco; a part that has been missing in the last couple of books. I was not happy to have one of the twins get whacked, really I thought she could have taken out any other Weasley brother and I wouldn't have cared. I am not sure why she chose a twin. The others that died seemed fitting. I did think it was dumb that Harry gave his son the middle name Severus, yeah he helped out, but come one all the crap he gave Harry.
Dumbledore's appearances were fantastic, definitely one of the best characters, his wit and wisdom unsurpassed the in books. Voldemort became a crazed wicked guy bent on winning and in so doing lost.
The deathly hallows were a nice addition, in fact the idea was pretty cool. In all the book moved at breakneck speed like you would expect, with Harry's collison with Dumbledore climaxing in the end.
Have to say I thought it odd that Harry had to wait around and almost have everything handed to him in this book. So much for this great adventure of finding horcruxes, they were all nearly handed to him. Maybe I am just disappointed there wasn't some great adventure, sitting around in the a tent for months just didn't seem as cool.
Of note I thought Rowling's use of the : and ; were a bit much. I wonder who edited the whole thing. There were some weird sentences, a few times I didn't know what the heck was going on. I was not a big fan of the epilogue. I thought it was as cheesy as can be. I would have liked a much different epilogue. The final chapter was fine, the epilogue was disappointing.
I would love to see Rowling take a few years off and then start writing again picking a new character to focus on, perhaps someone like Neville Longbottom, or one of Harry's kids.
Would recommend, but only if you have read the first 6.
