Now that the Olympics are over I am having withdrawals. Porter asked me tonight if we could watch, that only added to it. I have to admit I am an Olympic junkie. I even assigned homework based on the Olympics to my class. I like the competition, the colors, the countries, the flags, the hard work, etc... So here are my thoughts on this years winter olympics.
First off an fyi, the US set the record for most medals won with 37 beating Germany (36 in 02). It was the Team USA's best ever Olympics.
Never been a fan of judged events. We shouldn't have to wait for scores to know if someone won or not. We should already know. Unfortunately many of the winter events are judged. That doesn't take anything away for hard work, or that they are not athletes, but c'mon ice dancing. Really a sport. Its an art form.
Before this year the US team had ZERO medals in cross country, they got four, including a gold and three silvers.
Short track is the most unpredictable sport ever. Its fun, crazy, but don't count on winning.
First gold in bobsled in 62 years. Way to go Steve Holcomb and the night train.
Utah had 47 Olympians, most of any state.
Went nuts when the hockey team scored with 24 seconds left. Great moment. Coming back on Canada down two goals. Almost
Nice to see Bode Miller mature.
Two man luge. Really?! Do I need to comment on that?
Have to think more of an uproar would have been made if the Georgian luger would have been from the US or Canada. Sad story.
Favorite moment, beating Canada in hockey the first time.
Best US moment, breaking the drought at cross country with four medals
Best Olympic moment, Alexander Bilodeau winning gold in moguls for Canada after dedicating race to bro Frederic who has cerebal palsy and winning Canada's first gold of the games.
While I like Apolo Ohno and appreciate and admire his eight medals, they don't compare to Eric Heiden's five golds in every race in speed skating.
New Olympic sport= Ice Football. Why not?
