Barack Obama: Obama 08

I finally have a minute to get this in. I have never really been one for politics, my upbringing would suggest that I would be, but I have always felt politicians are the stereotypical greasy, slimy, sell-their-mother up the river charicatures that we love to despise. For the most part I think I am right. Maybe I'm jaded with too many xfiles, prison break, or 24, I don't know, I just haven't been a big fan despite how much my dad was. A point of clarification: I have always kept an eye on the scene, regardless of my involvement. With that bit of intro let's talk Obama.

A few months ago while channel surfing I was drawn to an interview with Barack Obama, I forget the show, in which I decided I really liked him. He came across as the type of guy I could hang with, yet respect, the kind of guy that could lead, yet listen, the kind of guy I have always wanted as president. He attacked Hillary despite obvious ramifications and party alliances, but not in a demeaning way, just basically saying we need someone new. And that he is new, a breath of fresh air. I don't get the greasy, slimy feeling with him. Since that initial moment of intruige I have read the articles in Newsweek, US World and News Report, and kept my eye out. When I decided he was my guy I went to his site and not too much later he declared for the presidency. I am saying this as a 32 year old white mormon father of four. I am conservative in nature, but while many proclaim to vote for the person not the party I have always held true, I feel no differently here. We need a strong personality to lead this country, even Bush's staunchest supporters realize his inability to gain the country's confidence, he is bumbling and laughable at times. But that is another story. I would encourage anyone to check out Barack Obama, you know I would not jump into backing a canidate I did not trust. Here is the link to his site www.barackobama.com
Trust me on this one, you may hate politics or be conservative, but this guy is worth a look, we don't want another four years of drudgery and bipartisanship.
I have read his memoirs in Dreams of my Father and feel even more strongly about him. I am also including the link to my blog on his site that contains the speech he gave Sunday. I found it not only rousing but intelligent and thoughtful. Give him a shot and feel free to post here what you think.
