Monday meant we were "live" and that all the time off was now over and that in reality I was back on stage. I have to admit that I enjoy this stage, I am not so sure about always being in front of people, but I never get nervous in front of my class. A day is really an easy day. I have an 8th grade social skills class, a 9th grade one as well, a break, and a seventh grade utah studies class. I am not quite sure how that is gonna go, but they are energetic. I asked for someone to hand out papers and 34 out of 36 hands flew up.
I need to add that I am somewhat of a vagrant that period. There are way too many kids for my room so we meet down the hall in Ms. Morrill's room. That whole thing isn't too bad, but I have to bring everything I need and Ms. Morrill is kinda freaky about touching stuff. There are at least five signs that say don't touch stuff around the room.
When it is all said and done I am good at teaching. I am a good motivator, great communicator, a good entertainer, and an average planner. I don't say this out of arrogance, its just what I do. I enjoy the classroom and most things about being a teacher. There are many I don't like but for the most part they are overshadowed and outweighed by the good things.
The first week was easy. I am completely uncertain what hand I have been dealt but here are a few good things:
After my Attitude speech (one of my better ones) one of my seventh grade girls that was trying out for the soccer team made me proud. Both coaches gave a pep talk at the end of the first day only to have Teresa announce that she has something to say. From the best I can tell she said that everyone should do their best and try their hardest, because Mr. Fawson says that if you believe you will fail you will, and if you believe you will succeed you will as well. Needless to say the application of my lesson was nice. Oh and she made the team the next the day, I mean how could you possibly cut her after that. The coaches said there were others more talented but no one fought as hard or had her heart.
I gave my goal speech on friday(another favorite). My big emphasis is that you have to be willing to do whatever it is you write down. I went as far as saying that it is as if you are writing this in blood and that the pen you are using is an extension of your finger, the ink really blood. After collecting the students goal sheets one of them had a finger print in ink that had the following near it "my blood print" Gotta love it.
