My day started at about 4:30 with a phone call. Janalynn works graves on Mon/Fri so when the phone rang and she wasn't in bed I was worried. There was a bit of relief when I saw her name on the caller ID, using her cell phone. She explained that the van had died on her way home and I needed to come and get her. I was somewhat groggy but managed to throw on some clothes to leave. I opened the door to the garage only to have her say "April Fools" with a big ole grin. I was too tired to really get into the spirit of it. But I had been punked, and she was pleased. I laid back down to sleep, but I couldn't do it, I was too busy thinking mischievously.
On my way out the door I grabbed my Obama sign and decided to plant it on a lawn. I still don't know how everyone feels out here. I imagine they are all republican, but I didn't want to upset anyone, so I placed the sign on Greg's lawn. I knew Greg would appreciate it. I am not really sure who he is for he has never come out and said it, but I knew he wouldn't die of a heart attack either.
Not too much later I received a text from Greg stating he had seen the sign and was blaming me.
I got to work a bit early and went straight to work. We have nameplates next to our doors that have our names typed on a piece of paper that are covered with plastic and have screws holding them in place. I went to the janitor got a screwdriver and pulled off the biggest BYU fan's nameplate at work and replaced it with Ms. Utah Ute. I then took a Mac computer from a room and replaced it with an HP and hid the Mac in the room. Unless you use a Mac you have no idea just how good of a prank this really is.
I was going on a field trip later that day, so I had the asst. principal call my cohort Mr. Beal and tell him that I was deathly ill and would be unable to attend the field trip with him and that she was going instead. He called me a few minutes later and I verified the news. He thought it was a joke at first but believed it when he came to school asked the secretary, who picked up the ball, and told him I had a sub(which I indeed had for the field trip). He went and got a copy of class from the counseling center, who played along without my coaching mind you and was fully ready to go it alone. He was sitting in the office talking to a student, I sat next to him, he realized what had happened and called me a few names.
BTW our field trip was fantastic. Judge Paul Warner was a great host, couldn't have been more entertaining.
No one retaliated when I got back to school. I was a little worried. No one had been filled with the April Fools vengeance, or at least they had not acted on it. Nothing had been done. It was a nice fun day.
That is until I got a phone call alerting me to this:
Greg's wife made the comment that I didn't know who I was messing with. Maybe not. But she doesn't know that this is what I live for. But I'm sure she'll find out.
