After the voting I found the right background. I am happy with the new look now. So my week off from school was much like spring break two months ago. A full week off, rain, rain, and more rain. Couldn't do all I wanted to do. But then again I didn't have to really work. Still have yet to turn sprinklers on in the backyard. Oh and we haven't turned on the A/C yet either. I just wish it would rain more at night and less in the day.
Thoughts on soccer and the World Cup. I see the World Cup as a grand festival of the world's most popular sport. It is like the Olympics(different nations, every four years, host nation, etc)for soccer. In that way it is an incredible spectacle. I have watched parts of a few games and all the US game today. I felt the US played gutsy and somehow tied a better team. BTW that was a dang lucky goal. Yea I get you make your own luck, but it was still lucky.
Overall I think soccer is a good sport. I have been playing at the school and have enjoyed it much more than I thought. Despite my lack of skill and conditioning I have done okay. I can't score well, but I can pass and hustle just fine. It reminds me some of bball with a lot more passing. All that being said, I think it is a lousy tv sport. I do like that the games are 90 minutes plus a few for injuries and halftime--all other sports could take a lesson from that. I think the announcers need to do a better job explaining things like how and why do you get a yellow card/red card, what constitutes being offsides, etc... Most people watching are casual fans that don't fully appreciate the game. We need to know why we should appreciate it. Case in point Landon Donovan. I have seen his mug for years and heard about how great he is, after watching today I couldn't tell you why he is considered good, he did nothing to impress me. Now maybe he was fantastic, my point is I need to know what he does or does not do well. Explain it. I am trying to appreciate this sport more, admittedly having a hard time. Go USA
