Jazz game 1 vs. Houston

There are a lot of movie titles that could be the title for the new Jazz season. Here are a few; 2006/7 The Year We Make Contact or The 2006 Jazz--A New Hope. I think everyone has had their hopes dashed the past few years with all the injuries. At the end of last year, when Boozer came back, and Sloan finally let Williams play, the Jazz played well. They had a great draft picking an athletic guard in Brewer, a rebounding machine in Millsap, and the ever quick Dee Brown. The Revue was good, preseason, Williams and Millsap looked great, but who could predict how the team would do in the reg. season. Game 1 came and the Jazz looked great. I was able to tivo the game and watch it entirely after the kids were in bed. (I might add that I knew they won that's why I watched) If they had lost it wouldn't have happened.

So here are my thoughts. Williams running the point is a good thing. He attacks the basket, didn't do that a whole lot last year, and isn't afraid to shoot, something Stockton should have done more of.

Derek Fisher: I was happy when we traded a load of crap for Fisher, for a few reasons; first, to get rid of the crap, mainly McCleod and Sloan's inability to not play him, second cause I like Fish, third, that makes us tougher. I remember when I worked for the Jazz I told Fish that I wished he was on our team, I'm sure he never thought at that time he would ever be traded for McCleod to play here. Fish was everything I had hoped for, tough, savvy, and cool as the other side of the pillow.

Boozer looked great, just how I always hoped, if only he could stay healthly. Karl never rebounded like him, or went to his left, but Karl never missed nearly 2 seasons either.

CJ Miles-- I was stunned to see him start, really. I mean here is a guy that didn't even play last year, the Jazz actually sent him to the minors, and now he is playing. Why did we waste time playing Williams at the two or using Palacio at all. Sloan has never been good with foresight. He hit the shots Horny used to hit. Hopefully he can do it again.

Brewer. simply put he is the most athletic player I can remember the Jazz having. In an era of athletes the Jazz have been slow, this makes them quick. He made some real athletic plays. Have the Jazz ever successfully thrown an alley-oop?

Giricek and Araujo-- the less we see of them the better. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come.

Millsap. So a guy leads the NCAA three years in a row and because he played at a school that produced Karl Malone he goes in the 2nd round. I am very happy to have Millsap, mainly so I don't have to see Collins. Sloan loves hustle, rebounding, and toughness. That is Millsap.

Random rants: I liked the way the Jazz played together. They moved the ball well. They attacked the glass, and played hard. Houston looked like they hadn't played together much. Oh wait they haven't. Hopefully they can get another win tonight against the Suns. Then everyone would really get excited.
