Ronnie Brewer

Anyone who has spoken to me in the last few weeks about the Jazz, knows that I have been wondering why Ronnie Brewer hasn't been playing more. Let me elaborate on this; the Jazz are in major need of a GOOD 2 guard. Giricek is not the answer(although he is decent for about 15 minutes if the team is need of points, but no more than 15 minutes, unless he is really hot then maybe 20). AK has proven he cannot guard anyone on the ball. Sure his help defense is solid, but on the ball against the 2 guards he might be worse than anyone else. Fisher plays hard, gives it his all, but he is short and with him and Williams on the court it makes our team small. The bigger 2 guards, which is nearly everyone compared to Fish, can just shoot over him, no matter how tough Fish is playing. Plus I think we lose some athleticism. Harpring is tough like Fish, but much slower. He gives us a nice mismatch offensively, as he can post guys up, but he is significantly slower. Therein is the dilemma. Let us add to it that four players who all play the 2 guard, have lit the Jazz up for 50+ this season. 3 of those games we have lost. I have been making the case for a while that Brewer gives us the best possible solution to this problem, without making a trade. AK for Ray Allen? Probably not.

First of all Brewer is tall, he is 6'7", secondly he is the best athlete on the team, thirdly he is good defensively. Let me clarify, he may not know Sloan's system and may not always be in the "right" place, but he can play D, as evidenced last night when he guarded Cowardmelo. He may not be able to shoot like Fish or Giricek but they can't take it to the hole like he can. I think he is the only guy capable of finishing the oop. Sloan pulled this crap last year with Williams by not playing him and then realizing he is the best option and future of the team. So what if he isn't the shooter that Giricek is, we already have a 6'11" shooting guard in Okur, so what if he doesn't know where he is supposed to be everytime, not only can he make up for it with his athleticism, but is anyone on the team always where they are supposed to be. As long as he sits the bench we will struggle at the 2. He is the future and may start next year, so why not give him the minutes now? Jerry needs to just play him, especially with AK out. BTW anyone else hoping AK is out for a while? Me too.

Side note on that, I went out with a kid who was 6'7" a few times. It is very tall (o:

I went to the game the other night (last Monday maybe?) and was very pleased to see they still had that cute guy on the team. I don't remember his name, though. Sports are made so much better when there are cute guys on the team.

Go Jazz.
