Brotherly Love

Natalie came in crying that her scooter was missing. We did some searching and she was right. She was feeling bad that it was gone and that someone may have stolen it. She lamented that Santa brought it to her and now it was gone. Porter said, "Maybe Santa came and got it." I explained that Santa didn't usually work that way. He then said, "Let's say a prayer." Natalie agreed to this. They both were certain that by praying they could find it. After the prayer Porter said "Let's go see if its out in the front yard."

Now I appreciated his enthusiasm and faith but we had just looked there a minute before so I knew it wouldn't be there. As soon as he opened the door and realized it wasn't there his mind was spinning away. He yelled at Colton who is 14 who was riding a skateboard, "Have you seen Natalie's scooter?" "No" Undeterred he started running down the street, telling me he thought it was at Natalie's friend Savannah's house. And wouldn't you know it there it was on the side of the house. He nearly lost his voice he was so excited. We raced home and he shouted for Natalie to come and see it.

I was impressed by how much concern Porter had for Natalie, he hates to see her sad. I was impressed that he wanted to pray, and that even at his age he did what most of us fail to do, he acted. He went to find it and did. He already realizes the importance of prayer and that one needs to act and not just wait for some magic.

Its stuff like this that makes up for the teenage drama that the other two produce. Natalie needed to have a paper airplane for school last week so she asked Porter(not me or Jan), who makes about 5 a day, to make one for her. He was absolutely thrilled. And according to Natalie it was one of the best in the class. I have to admit for being only four he does make a good paper airplane, but I am happier that he has a bond with Natalie.
