"I swear I shot you, you should be dead"

This is actually a really hard post to write. I have already read through a few posts on this subject. In a way I feel like how a Deseret News writer must have felt when the story they had written was old news by 3pm, cause the SL Tribune beat em to it.

Because of this I am going to put my own spin on this.

I knew beforehand that Laser Tag was going to be a riot. Honestly I am not sure why anyone would have turned this down. I would have canceled just about anything to go. This was my type of game. Competition, athletics, work out, shooting. What more could you want?

The only drawback the whole night was the briefing. At least that is what our guide Josh called it.
Believe me he has no idea what the word means. Somehow we got the history of laser tag, the difference between paintballing and indoor laser, and all sorts of stuff before we got to the game. I was glad he knew the stuff, really I was, I appreciate the fact that as the guy in charge he knew more than I did. I just thought it was way overdone. The best advice he gave us was after the first game. That is what he should have said before we played.

Our gear was geeky. Check out the head piece, 36 people at the park running around people's bbqs wearing that. It is actually better than wearing the vest and stuff.

There was blue and yellow teams. But in the dark there was no real way of telling who was who. I am sure I shot someone on my team, maybe I should say someones, and I know I got shot by my fellow yellows.

The games were fast paced and got your heart pumping and head sweaty for the most part. I will say that our team had a clear advantage over the other team. We swept every game and really won quite easily. I realize that may come under contention, but I never felt we would lose. Now I know what I type next can be construed as sexist but it is how I see it.

Of the 36 people/18 per team, we had 11 men and 7 women, the other team would have had the opposite. Here are my points, in a game in which guns are involved I am going to guess that overall the guys would have a lot more experience shooting. Real bullets or lasers it doesn't matter, this was a game in which that experience counted. There was a lot of running involved and I would guess that overall the men would have an edge, probably not in every case, but the fastest people there are likely to be men. So a four man advantage was really telling. Plus the women we had were fierce, they were competitive and good communicators. I would take everyone of them back on my team. Now that's not to say the women on the other team weren't, but the ones on our team really wanted to win.

Now I wrote all that realizing that it was just plain fun. Sure the winning was good, and I would have been disappointed losing the whole night, but I might be making more out of it than I should be. This was a great get together. If I were to see my former teammates or enemies around say at the store, I might point my finger and shoot an imaginary laser at them, despite how well I knew them beforehand. Get togethers like this are good and important. I for one am glad to get out of the house and mingle with others. The physical nature was an added bonus. When you have an activity like this it gets everyone's blood pumping and that is a good thing.

I know some people are wondering how much or if I did cheat because of what I wrote on my list of 25 things. Here is the answer: I didn't have to. Luckily every game in which I could have died all we had to do was run back and touch a cone to respawn. We were also on the offensive the whole game so I really didn't need to.

Here is the site

Much thanks to everyone who made this night possible.
