So I gave into all the hype and decided to go see Avatar on my day off. Wow!!! Blown away. That was visually stunning and incredible. When Jurassic Park came out in 1993 that blew the lid off, then came the Matrix in 1999 and continued blowing things away, Lord of the Rings came 2001-3 and blew everything up, then came Avatar and blew them all away. The film almost makes Jurassic Park look hokey.
This is a must see in the theater, if for no other reason than just to see it in 3-D. Wow! It looks so real that you forget it is not. The attention to detail is rivaled only by that of LOTR.
So I heard beforehand that its Dances with Wolves on another planet. Well I like Dances, and yes that assertion has validity. Certainly there are objectives of the film i.e. environmental conservation, greed, etc... But I don't really care, plus I like stories that are layered and all of us could use a little more thought about the environment and less about greed.
I will say I was surprised at the amount of young kids at the film, yea its cool, but its long, has language, violence, and yea scantily clad avatars. Not for young kids.
I think the coolest thing in the story was the bond between the animals and Navi. Great idea and really pulled the story together. That was my favorite idea, even better than the avatar idea.
Overall five out of five stars. Some shows are rule changers, this is one of them, in fact this one didn't just change the rules, it changed the game. Truly the coolest visuals I have ever seen. I thought about giving it four or four and half, but I thought this is one of those shows transcendent shows, yea the script could be tighter and there are instances of predictability, but the visuals blow everything else out of the water. For me it would be like having a student turn in the single greatest project I have ever seen and then not give it an A because they missed a fact or failed to cite a source. Who cares? When it is that incredible it doesn't matter and that's the way I feel about Avatar. Sure there are some things keeping it from perfection, but it is so incredible that it doesn't really matter.

Totally agree about the Navi - animal bond being the coolest part. And, um, Jurassic Park IS hokey.
Yep...I still want to go see it again.
