Breakfast at Tiffany's

Tiffany is my cousin; Lorna and Dave's daughter, but she is the same age as Kelsey, same grade and same school. The same is true for her older brother Zach and Kailey. In fact Kailey and Zach's birthdays are just a few days apart. So yeah that's a little odd, but what can ya do? Lorna invited us over for breakfast and I got to meet my cousin Jody for the first time. Jody is a few years older than me, she is the oldest cousin on the Lawler side. This is more of a loaded subject than I want it to be, but since this is my blog I am going to tell this the way I see it.

My mom's family has always been spread all over, I mean Bill's family lived in Italy for a while, but whether it was Maine, California, Italy, Minnesota, etc... I never got a chance to know my extended family like on my dad's side. For instance the word cousin on my dad's side evokes certain meaning for me; it means close friend, I know all my cousins on my dad's real well. We grew up together, most of us are local and we still get together often. Whereas on the other side cousin means something quite different. I didn't really even meet any until Bill's crew moved to Alpine a five years ago. Since moving to Layton we have gotten closer to Dave and Lorna; but it wasn't until today that I met Jody. There are reasons why and its all rather confusing and almost taboo to discuss and really I can't do it justice in this blog. Regardless I was very happy to meet her and her son Cole(7).

There is a certain connection I have always felt to mother's side and perhaps it is because it had been a mystery for so long to find out who these people are. I must say it made my day to be able to meet her and I feel guilty to some degree that it has taken this long. Plus she made a killer cranberry dessert that certainly warrants future get togethers. Breakfast was nice, being with everyone was better, but Lorna's pumpkin pie was best. I may have to invite myself over to get another piece. It rounded out a great relaxing weekend, but without a doubt the highlight was meeting my cousin Jody.
