Our home teacher came over yesterday and asked our girls, "What gift are you going to give?" I liked this a lot. Janalynn and I have already talked about consumerism and that buying our kids a lot of gifts just means we spend more, not that the kids are happier. This year we are toning it down and just giving each kid a few things.
I heard a preacher who has made a movie about Christmas and consumerism talk about this subject. His point was that we have gotten away from giving gifts that mean something, which is what Christmas was all about, to buying anything and everything. He didn't say don't buy anything or spend any money, it was more like you don't need to spend a lot--but if and when you do make sure it means something. I like that and I think it is a much needed message in our consumer gotta have it now society. I know I fall victim to it as well. So before you run to the store to buy presents for the sake of buying them, consider the thought of making your gift not just be a toy that gets played with for a week, but one that actually means something.

Jared! I'm _so_ glad you asked! I've been wanting to talk about the awesome presents I got The Roommates.
For the one who likes to tell stories I got the game Once Upon A Time (and the darker expansion pack!) that is basically a game where you tell a story! How cool is that? So, so cool. This Roommate also really loves games.
For another I'm getting The Diary of Adam and Eve because it reminds me of her and we've had discussions where I knew she would love, love it.
For the last Roommate I'm getting a Witching Ball! They're pretty cool. They're glass and hand blown and are supposed to trap evil spirits. She and I both have somewhat bad depression so that will catch her evil spirits, I hope.
And for another friend that is almost like a Roommate...she loves sheep (I love sheep!) I got a sheep apron and sheep print from Pitlochry in Scotland. Those Scots, they love their sheep.
Everyone else gets cookies.
Yeah, I'm totally excited (o: They're the Best Gifts Evah.
This is all.
Love,
~Kristy
