Apparently every year at this time they young men and leaders have a football game. To keep the contact down we played ultimate frisbee rules, which actually turned out to work well. Basically it was the leaders and deacons against the priests and teachers. For the most part it was even, with a slight edge to us, because of our veteran savvy, or as the ym might say, dirty play.
The field was well-lit by the huge stadium outdoor lights. There was a minor conflict with the region flag football but we made it work. It was fun to play with the young men. A few of the boys are players. Overall this was good practice for the upcoming turkey bowl.
Random thoughts: There was of course a few boys who stayed entirely in the endzone and dropped nearly every pass that came their way. One of the boys on the other team said they should help out on defense cause it was obvious they were good at batting down the ball.
Cleats would have been nice tonight. The grass was slick and the ground was just right for cleats. Of course I don't have any and wore my bball shoes.
It wasn't until the last series that things got rough. We said last touchdown wins, cause we had the ball, and then forgot the ultimate frisbee rules and just ran with it. Sorry kids you weren't gonna beat the men.
We got home just in time for the Jazz game. Wow! Whatta ending. Lebron James hit a three with just under 10 seconds to tie the game after Ronnie Brewer hit two huge free throws. Then the Jazz hurry and inbound the ball to Williams who races down the court and scores with about a second to go with a nifty layup blowing by Lebron.
Millsap was huge, hitting a career high 24 pts. Brewer hit the two big free throws and added a three ball near the end. Both had 5 steals. Boozer was steady 23pts 12 rebounds and despite an off night 8 TO's by Deron he made the big play when he needed to. We owed them bad. Nice to see Brewer succeed in his new role, much like Deron he should have been playing a lot more as a rookie.
