For the past ten or so years I have played at Granite High. Since we moved up here it didn't make any sense to drive all the way to Granite to play. Plus last time I played I cracked a rib. I love playing tackle, but I am passed that time in my life. When I was laying around being sore for the entire Thanksgiving break, I realized that my once a year game for a few hours wasn't worth the pain. So I was very happy when my friend Ben invited me to play.
There are a few things about the Turkey Bowl that are always constants:
There is always one guy who is better than anyone else.
There is one guy who takes cheap shots and is rougher than necessary.
There is the guy that drops a few passes that hit him in the chest and never gets another pass.
There is one guy who wants a sub after the first couple plays.
Then there is everyone else, most are on par with each other, some are faster, some bigger, but most are about even.
After about an hour most everyone is worn out excet that one guy.
It gets to a point where you throw a pass and everyone just watches the guy run.
There are usually a few really nice plays.
I had a great time playing. We had subs, which turned out to be real good, you could play a few series and then come out. We also played flag football. This really made for less injuries and less aching. I didn't know anyone else other than Ben and another Jared in our ward. We were all on the same team. I made some nice plays, caught a td, had one amazing grab, so I could leave satisfied. No cracked ribs, no aches and pains, my legs will be sore, but I can handle that. I can't imagine Thanksgiving, my favorite holiday, without playing football, eating, and watching football. Can't wait til later.
