I like all sorts of music, I really do. When Janalynn and I play the radio game, you know the one where you name the song/band before the other person does while channel surfing, I dominate. In fact I have found very few people who can rival me. I am going to attempt to put down some bands/albums/songs that I really like.
We'll start with the real light stuff
Classical-
I absolutely love Beethoven's ninth 'Ode to Joy'. To me it represents overcoming adversity; triumph. I know that the fifth gets played a lot too, but how many people listen to the rest of the piece? It is also a classic.
Grieg- Peer Gynt and Hall of the Mountain King are just tremendous pieces.
Tchaikovsky- Romeo and Juliet is a soft but moving piece
Rimsky-Korsakov- Scheherazade is one of the best pieces of music ever written. I used to study to this when I was at the U.
Rock-
I guess I could categorize by decade or something, but I don't want to put forth that kind of effort so here they are.
Beatles- Really the greatest band ever. I love Rubber Soul, Magical Mystery Tour, and Sgt Peppers.
Led Zeppelin- So many good songs that people don't even know they did. They revolutioned rock and could go hard or soft. Stairway is probably the greatest song ever written. My favorite songs are Fool in the Rain, Bron Y'ar Stomp, When the Levee Breaks, All of My Love, Over the Hills and Far Away, Misty Mountain Hop, Kashmir. I actually found that the London Symphony did a Zep album. It is really cool.
U2- My generation's band. I love the Rattle and Hum video when Bono does Sunday Bloody Sunday. I searched for years to find the version of With or Without You off that movie and found it when Napster was legal. The Joshua Tree is one of my favorite albums of all time, but I am also a big fan of Achtung Baby.
Collective Soul- The only group that would make both my list and Janalynn's list. I have seen them in concert twice, both times they were fantastic. I like every album they have put out.
Live- Throwing Copper is hands down one of the greatest albums ever. At one time when all us kids were living at home, I had just got back from the mish, all four of us owned our own copy.
The Smashing Pumpkins- Let me begin by saying they are the weirdest band ever, they have put out some of my very favorite stuff, but they also have put out absolute garbage, that being said here are my favorite songs: Stand inside your love, Tonight Tonight, 1979, Disarm, Cherub Rock, Today.
Don Maclean's American Pie is truly the song of American Rock.
I have always been partial to Fire and Rain by Sweet Baby James, Rocketman by Elton John, Layla by Clapton
The Who have some great songs; Won't get fooled again, Baba O Riley, You better you bet, Love Reign Oer Me, Behind Blue Eyes. Who's Next is one of the greatest covers of all time.

I know I am forgetting some great stuff but off the top of my head those are my faves.
